Dear Students and Parents,
We are about to begin your 8th grade year in the BEAT program at JFK. This is an important year for you, as you will be working toward your best grades with the hopes of being accepted into the magnet high school you have been thinking about for a long time. I know this will be an excellent year for you and for me, and I will do my very best to prepare you for high school. You will learn to write essays and research papers, which will be a huge advantage for you in high school and college. You will go on some of the most amazing field trips this year, too, and experience the expertise of all of your 8th grade teachers. And you will have fun with your friends! All in all, you will never forget this year.
To help you know something about me, this is my 18th year as a language arts teacher at JFK. It is my 13th year in the BEAT Magnet program. I hold an Educational Specialist degree in Gifted Education, and I am Florida Certified in 5-12th grade English. I am the proud mother of a daughter and a son-in-law, and I have an amazing four-year-old granddaughter, Anna Grace. When I 'm not teaching, I read, walk, watch movies, crochet, write poetry, and love to explore different areas of the country with my husband. I am a published poet and photographer.
I am a 24/7 teacher. You can reach me by email every day, every evening, on the weekends, and throughout each vacation if you need me. You never need to worry about bothering me if you need my help. If you need me to stay after school, I will be happy to do so, if you give me a little bit of notice. We also have team meetings each Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, 8:30 - 9:00. If your parents want to come in and talk to us, please have them call Mrs. Valentino in the BEAT office.
I look forward to meeting you on August 19, and meeting your parents on Parent Night sometime in September.
Mrs. Karyn M. Bruce
